The grittier surface gives you slightly better bite on drops and rolls, though it's still not competing with elite spin paddles like the RPM Friction Pro. Where you feel the tradeoff is on off-center hits—the lower twist weight means the paddle twists more noticeably when you don't catch it clean, especially on blocks and resets where you're reacting fast.
